Camels

About the Animals

These intelligent, sociable creatures make excellent pets (and unique modes of transportation!). They’re extremely resilient; camels can live for weeks without water, and they have fat reserves in their hump that help them manage their body heat. Camel milk is also rich in nutrients that help boost the immune system, promote blood circulation, protect against diabetes, and improve heart health.

Fun Fact 1

Calves are born white in complexion and as they age, they develop darker skin

Fun Fact 2

A one-hump camel is a Dromedary, the double-humped camels are Bactrians

Fun Fact 3

Camels carry their young for almost 14 months before giving birth

Fun Fact 4

Camels have two rows of long eyelashes and three sets of eyelids

Fun Fact 5

Camels can carry some extreme weight (up to 900 pounds) for over 20 miles a day
